Universal Orlando resort hotel beside a waterway at dusk

Universal Orlando Hotels

Universal runs eleven hotels on one compact campus, in tiers that differ by benefit rather than only by price. The tier is the decision, not the decor.

30-Second Verdict

Choose a Premier hotel if a party of three or more would otherwise buy Universal Express, because the included benefit can outweigh the higher rate. Choose Preferred for a walking path without the Premier premium. Choose Prime Value or Value if a family suite for six matters more than the walk. Choose Helios Grand if Epic Universe is the trip.

Benefits change

Universal sets its hotel benefits, decides which hotels qualify and decides which parks each benefit covers. All three have changed before. Confirm the current terms on Universal's official site before choosing a hotel for a benefit.

What every on-site hotel gives you

Universal's campus is small enough that on-site has a different meaning here than at Walt Disney World. Several hotels are within a genuine walk of the park entrances, and the ones that are not are a short shuttle ride rather than a cross-property journey.

  • Early park admission before general opening, with the parks covered set by Universal.
  • Complimentary transport to the parks and CityWalk, by walking path, water taxi or shuttle depending on the hotel.
  • No theme park parking charge, because you are not driving in.
  • The ability to return to the room in the middle of the day without losing an hour.

The last one is the benefit people underestimate. Universal's compactness means an afternoon break is realistic from almost any of these hotels, which changes what a July day looks like with young children.

Premier hotels

Premier

Universal Orlando★★★★8.7/103,557 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Closest to Park
  • Pool
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car
  • Spa

The most useful walking path of the three original Premier hotels, plus a water taxi. Universal has long included Universal Express Unlimited for guests at its Premier hotels at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.

Best for: Trips centred on Islands of Adventure

Watch out: Premier pricing. Confirm the current benefit terms before booking for Express.

Premier

Universal Orlando★★★★8.7/102,347 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Closest to Park
  • Pool
  • Water slides
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car

The shortest walk of any hotel to Universal Studios Florida, and a sand-bottom pool with a slide that gets genuine use. It is the liveliest of the three.

Best for: Trips centred on Universal Studios Florida

Watch out: The pool has music playing underwater and the hotel is not designed to be quiet.

Premier

Universal Orlando★★★★7.9/10556 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Luxury Pick
  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car

Three pools, a full spa and the largest rooms of the Premier group, at the cost of the longest walk. For adults or a couple, the quiet is the point.

Best for: Travelers who want the calmest Premier hotel

Watch out: Furthest from the park gates of the three. Most guests use the water taxi rather than the path.

Premier, at Epic Universe

Epic Universe★★★★

  • On-Site
  • New Hotel
  • Best for Epic Universe
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car
  • Pool
  • Spa

The only hotel inside Epic Universe, opened with the park in 2025. If the new gate is the reason for the trip, nothing else is comparable on convenience.

Best for: Epic Universe trips

Watch out: New enough that guest review volume is limited, and its benefit package should be confirmed with Universal rather than assumed to match the older Premier hotels.

Preferred hotels

Preferred

Universal Orlando★★★★8.7/102,187 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Best Value
  • Pool
  • Water slides
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car
  • Spa

The best pool at Universal outside the Premier tier, with a sand beach and a slide, plus a water taxi to CityWalk and a walking path. It is the sensible middle of the range.

Best for: Families who want a resort pool without Premier pricing

Watch out: No Express benefit at this tier. If Express is the reason you are considering on-site, this is not the hotel.

Preferred

Universal Orlando★★★8.8/102,343 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Pool
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car
  • Fitness center

A compact glass tower with a rooftop bar, next to Volcano Bay and within walking distance of Sapphire Falls and the water taxi. Rooms are efficient rather than large.

Best for: Couples and small parties who want a modern room beside Volcano Bay

Watch out: The rooms are genuinely small. This is a poor choice for four people with luggage.

Prime Value and Value hotels

Prime Value

Universal Orlando★★★8.5/106,040 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Best for Families
  • Best Value
  • Family suites
  • Lazy river
  • Water slides
  • Kitchenette
  • Works without a car

Family suites for six with a kitchenette, a lazy river, a bowling alley and a walking path to Volcano Bay. It is the most complete family answer on Universal property.

Best for: Families of five or six

Watch out: Value-tier rooms, and a very large footprint. Ask for a building near the main pool.

Prime Value

Universal Orlando★★★8.9/1076 reviews

  • On-Site
  • New Hotel
  • Best Value
  • Pool
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Works without a car
  • Fitness center

One of the two value-tier hotels built for the Epic Universe end of the campus, with two-bedroom suites for six and a lower rate than Helios Grand.

Best for: Epic Universe trips on a budget

Watch out: Shuttle only, and new enough that review volume is still thin.

Prime Value

Universal Orlando★★★

  • On-Site
  • New Hotel
  • Best Value
  • Pool
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Works without a car
  • Fitness center

Stella Nova's twin, built at the same time to the same specification. Choose between them on rate and on which has availability for your dates.

Best for: The same trip as Stella Nova

Watch out: Because they are so similar, there is rarely a strong reason to pay more for one than the other.

Value

Universal Orlando★★★8.8/105,064 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Best Value
  • Best for Families
  • Family suites
  • Kitchenette
  • Pool
  • Theme park shuttle

Two-bedroom suites for six with a kitchenette at Universal's cheapest tier, with two pools. It is the cheapest way to get six people into an on-site room.

Best for: Families of six on the lowest on-site rate

Watch out: Shuttle only, and the shuttle queue at park opening is real.

Value

Universal Orlando★★★8.9/104,978 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Best Value
  • Family suites
  • Kitchenette
  • Pool
  • Theme park shuttle

The smaller and older of the two Endless Summer hotels, with the same two-bedroom suites and one pool rather than two.

Best for: The same trip as Dockside, usually at a slightly lower rate

Watch out: Same shuttle-only access. Compare rates against Dockside before choosing.

The trade-off

Universal's tiers trade money for walking and for Express. The Premier premium is only worth it when the party is large enough that buying Express separately would cost more, and only at the parks the benefit covers.

Common questions

How many hotels does Universal Orlando have?

Eleven on-site hotels across the Premier, Preferred, Prime Value and Value tiers, including Helios Grand inside Epic Universe and the two hotels built alongside it.

Which Universal hotels include Express Pass?

Universal has long included Universal Express Unlimited for guests at its three original Premier hotels, Portofino Bay, Hard Rock and Royal Pacific, at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. It has never covered Volcano Bay. What applies at Epic Universe, and at Helios Grand, should be confirmed with Universal directly.

See Universal hotels with Express Unlimited.

Can you walk to Universal from the hotels?

From Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, Sapphire Falls and Aventura there are walking paths, and several also run a water taxi. Cabana Bay has a walking path to Volcano Bay. Endless Summer, Stella Nova and Terra Luna are shuttle-only.

Is it worth staying on-site at Universal?

More often than at Disney, because the campus is compact enough that on-site genuinely removes travel time rather than just parking cost. For a party of three or more at a Premier hotel, the included Express benefit can change the arithmetic completely.
