Guests walking a resort pathway towards a theme park entrance in Orlando

Orlando Hotels Without a Car

Going car-free in Orlando is entirely possible and only from certain hotels. Everywhere else, the saving turns into a rideshare budget within two days.

30-Second Verdict

Stay on-site at Universal Orlando or Walt Disney World, because both run transport to their own parks all day. The only strong off-site option is a Disney Springs Resort Area hotel within walking distance of Disney Springs. Everything else means budgeting for rideshares.

Why this is harder in Orlando than it looks

Orlando's attractions sit in separate clusters connected by multi-lane roads, and the public transport network is designed for residents rather than visitors. The I-Ride Trolley covers International Drive well and does not enter the Disney or Universal properties.

That leaves three genuine car-free strategies, and the hotel choice determines which are available to you.

  1. Stay inside a resort's own transport system. Disney and Universal both move their hotel guests to their own parks all day, at no extra charge.
  2. Stay somewhere you can walk. That means the Universal hotels with footpaths, a handful of Disney resorts, and the Disney Springs Resort Area hotels for evenings.
  3. Budget for rideshares. Workable for two people, expensive for six, and unpredictable at park closing time when everybody wants one at once.

Airport transfers need their own plan

Orlando International Airport is a long way from every hotel cluster. Whatever your car-free plan is inside the trip, arrange the airport transfer separately and in advance.

Universal Orlando★★★8.5/106,040 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Best for Families
  • Works without a car
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Family suites
  • Lazy river

Universal transport to all three parks, a walking path to Volcano Bay and a suite that sleeps six. The whole trip can happen without a car, including the water park day.

Best for: Families of five or six visiting Universal

Watch out: CityWalk dining is the practical evening option. Anything else needs a rideshare.

Disney's Contemporary Resort in Magic Kingdom area
Best car-free walk at Disney

Disney's Contemporary Resort

Magic Kingdom area

  • On-Site
  • Closest to Park
  • Works without a car
  • Walkable to a park
  • Pool
  • Water slides

A walking path to Magic Kingdom and a monorail through the building. For a car-free trip weighted to that park, nothing else comes close.

Best for: Magic Kingdom-heavy trips

Watch out: Deluxe pricing.

Disney's Beach Club Resort in EPCOT area
Best car-free for EPCOT

Disney's Beach Club Resort

EPCOT area★★★★

  • On-Site
  • Best Rest Day
  • Works without a car
  • Walkable to a park
  • Pool
  • Lazy river

A walk to the EPCOT International Gateway, a boat to Hollywood Studios and Stormalong Bay for the days in between.

Best for: EPCOT and Hollywood Studios trips

Watch out: Deluxe pricing, and Stormalong Bay is busy.

Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area in Disney Springs area
Best off-site car-free option

Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area

Disney Springs area★★★★7.5/10600 reviews

  • Best Without a Car
  • Works without a car
  • Walkable to a park
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Pool

On Hotel Plaza Boulevard with a walk to Disney Springs for evenings and a shuttle for park days. It is the only off-site position in Orlando where this genuinely works.

Best for: Trips that want an off-site rate and no rental

Watch out: Shuttle departures are limited. Check the timetable before committing.

Best budget car-free base on I-Drive

International Drive★★★8.2/106,133 reviews

  • Best Value
  • Walkable to a park
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Budget
  • Pool

Restaurants across the road, the I-Ride Trolley outside and a theme park shuttle. For a couple willing to use rideshares for park days, it keeps the total low.

Best for: Trips using the I-Ride Trolley and rideshares

Watch out: This is the rideshare-budget strategy rather than a genuinely car-free one.

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport in Orlando Airport
Best for the flight itself

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport

Orlando Airport

  • Closest to Park
  • Near the airport
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car
  • Pool

Inside the terminal, which removes the transfer entirely on the day you fly. For a car-free trip, the airport nights are the part worth planning hardest.

Best for: The night either side of a flight

Watch out: A poor base for anything other than flying.

The trade-off

A car-free Orlando trip costs more per night and less per day. You pay a premium to be inside a resort's transport system, and you stop paying for a rental, fuel, hotel parking and theme park parking. For a family of four staying five nights those two numbers are usually closer than people expect.

Common questions

Can you visit Orlando without a car?

Yes, if you stay on-site at Universal Orlando or Walt Disney World, or at a Disney Springs Resort Area hotel and accept rideshares for the parks. From most other Orlando hotels a car-free trip becomes an expensive rideshare habit within a couple of days.

Is there public transport between Disney and Universal?

There is no direct visitor transport service between the two resorts. Third-party shuttles exist and vary, and most visitors use a rideshare or a car. If your week genuinely covers both, factor that journey into the hotel decision.

How do I get from Orlando airport to my hotel without a car?

Rideshares, shared shuttle services and pre-booked private transfers all operate. The airport is a long way from every hotel cluster, so arrange it in advance rather than on arrival, particularly with a large party or a late landing.

Do Orlando hotel shuttles replace a car?

Rarely. An off-site hotel shuttle usually runs a handful of scheduled departures to selected parks, which is very different from Disney or Universal transport running throughout operating hours. Treat a shuttle as a way to avoid parking, not as a transport system.
