Hotel entrance with palms near the Walt Disney World area in Orlando

Hotels Near Disney World

Near Disney World covers a lot of ground, because Walt Disney World is roughly the size of a small city. These are the off-site hotels where near actually means something.

30-Second Verdict

Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando is the best all-round off-site choice near Disney once the included food is counted. Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek wins when the week has a rest day. Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista wins if you want to walk to Disney Springs. Sheraton Vistana Resort wins for seven or more people who need a kitchen.

What near Disney means in practice

Walt Disney World has four theme parks spread across a property with several entrances. A hotel that sits close to the Disney Springs corner is not close to Animal Kingdom, and a hotel on the western side is a long way from EPCOT. Any single distance figure for the whole resort is meaningless.

The practical questions are how long it takes to get from the hotel car park to a park car park, whether you will pay theme park parking every day, and whether a shuttle exists that runs at the times you need it. Only the first of those is about distance.

Distances on booking sites are straight lines

A hotel listed as two miles from Disney is two miles in a straight line to some point on the property, which is not a drive time and not a walking distance. Check the route to the specific park entrance you will use most.

The picks

Best all-round off-site choice

Disney Springs area

  • Free Breakfast
  • Best Value
  • Free breakfast
  • Pool
  • Water slides
  • Theme park shuttle

Free hot breakfast and free food and drinks in the early evening turn an ordinary rate into a genuinely cheaper week for a family. The rooftop pool and the Disney Springs area location handle the rest.

Best for: Families who want breakfast and an evening meal in the rate

Watch out: No Disney theme park benefit is attached, so early entry is not part of the deal.

Best for a rest day

Bonnet Creek★★★★★8.3/10437 reviews

  • Best Rest Day
  • Lazy river
  • Water slides
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Spa

An Official Walt Disney World Hotel inside the Bonnet Creek pocket, with a lazy river and a water slide that Disney's Value and Moderate resorts cannot match.

Best for: Families who need a real pool day mid-week

Watch out: Resort fees and parking apply. Get the all-in nightly total before comparing with a Disney rate.

Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area in Disney Springs area
Best for walking to Disney Springs

Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area

Disney Springs area★★★★7.5/10600 reviews

  • Best Without a Car
  • Pool
  • Walkable to a park
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Works without a car

A Disney Springs Resort Area hotel on Hotel Plaza Boulevard, close enough to walk to Disney Springs for dinner. That single fact makes it one of the few off-site hotels that works without a rental car.

Best for: Trips that want an off-site rate and no car

Watch out: Getting to the parks still means a shuttle or a rideshare, both of which take longer than Disney's own transport from a Disney resort.

Caribe Royale Orlando in Lake Buena Vista
Best all-suite option

Caribe Royale Orlando

Lake Buena Vista★★★★8.8/103,570 reviews

  • Best for Families
  • Best Value
  • Family suites
  • Kitchenette
  • Pool
  • Water slides
  • Theme park shuttle

Every standard unit is a one-bedroom suite with a door between the bedroom and the living room, at a price well below Bonnet Creek. With young children on an early bedtime that door is the feature.

Best for: Families of four or five who want a separate living area

Watch out: The property is spread out and hosts conventions. Ask for a building near the pool.

Best water park on the Disney side

Kissimmee★★★★9/101,058 reviews

  • Best for Families
  • Water park
  • Water slides
  • Spa
  • Theme park shuttle

A covered atrium and a water park make it the strongest bad-weather hotel near Disney, and the Kissimmee location keeps the southern Disney entrance close.

Best for: Families who want a full day at the hotel

Watch out: Convention crowds and variable rates. Check what is booked into the halls for your dates.

Cheapest way into the Bonnet Creek pool complex

Bonnet Creek★★★★8.6/102,630 reviews

  • Best Value
  • Lazy river
  • Water slides
  • Theme park shuttle
  • Pool

The Wyndham side of Bonnet Creek shares the same lagoon, lazy river and slides as its more expensive neighbours, at a lower price and with a Disney theme park shuttle.

Best for: Families who want the Bonnet Creek facilities at a lower rate

Watch out: It is not an Official Walt Disney World Hotel, so any Disney benefit that depends on that designation does not apply.

Sheraton Vistana Resort Villas in Lake Buena Vista
Best for seven or more people

Sheraton Vistana Resort Villas

Lake Buena Vista★★★★9/102,254 reviews

  • Best for Large Families
  • Full kitchens
  • Family suites
  • Pool
  • Extended stay

Two-bedroom villas with a full kitchen and laundry, close to the Lake Buena Vista side of Disney. Against three hotel rooms this is a different and much cheaper category.

Best for: Large families and two families travelling together

Watch out: Timeshare presentations are part of the model. Declining is straightforward and worth doing at check-in.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando Flamingo Crossings in Flamingo Crossings
Best on the western side

Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando Flamingo Crossings

Flamingo Crossings★★★9.1/102,177 reviews

  • Free Breakfast
  • Full kitchens
  • Free breakfast
  • Pool
  • Extended stay

Flamingo Crossings sits by Disney's western entrance, which is the quiet side and the closest off-site cluster to Animal Kingdom. Homewood adds a full kitchen and included breakfast.

Best for: Animal Kingdom-heavy trips and longer stays

Watch out: There is very little around Flamingo Crossings beyond the town centre chains. This is a car-first area.

Best luxury near Disney

Golden Oak, Walt Disney World★★★★★9.3/10157 reviews

  • Luxury Pick
  • Lazy river
  • Water slides
  • Spa
  • Luxury
  • Theme park shuttle

An Official Walt Disney World Hotel inside Golden Oak with Disney theme park transportation, a water park with a lazy river and a full spa. It is the top of the off-site market by a distance.

Best for: Families who want luxury and a water park

Watch out: Priced accordingly, and further from the park entrances than the Bonnet Creek hotels.

The trade-off

Off-site near Disney buys you a better pool, more space and often a lower rate. It costs you the earliest park entry, the free transport and the parking. Whether that is a good trade depends almost entirely on how many Disney park days the week contains.

Common questions

Which hotel is closest to Disney World?

Disney's own resorts are on the property, so they are closest by definition. Among independently operated hotels, the Disney Springs Resort Area properties on Hotel Plaza Boulevard and the Bonnet Creek resorts sit inside the Disney property boundary. Closest to which park still matters more than closest to Disney.

Do hotels near Disney World have free shuttles?

Many advertise one. What varies enormously is how many departures there are, which parks are served and whether you need to reserve a seat. A shuttle with three departures a day is a very different product from Disney's own transport. Confirm the current schedule with the hotel before you rely on it.

See Orlando hotels with a Disney shuttle.

Is it worth staying off-site at Disney World?

It is when the week includes non-park days, when your party is five or six, when you want a kitchen, or when you are also visiting Universal. It usually is not when the week is four or five Disney park days out of five nights and nobody wants to drive.

Can you walk to Disney World from an off-site hotel?

Not to a theme park entrance. Several Hotel Plaza Boulevard hotels are within walking distance of Disney Springs, which is a shopping and dining district rather than a park. Reaching the parks from any off-site hotel means driving, a shuttle or a rideshare.
