Hotels Near the Orlando Theme Parks

Near the theme parks is not a location in Orlando. There are three separate resort areas with an interstate between them, and being near one of them means being far from another.

30-Second Verdict

Choose the cluster that holds most of your park days. Walt Disney World sits south west, Universal Orlando and Epic Universe sit north east along International Drive, and SeaWorld sits between them. A week split evenly is the only case where International Drive beats picking a side.

The three clusters

Disney and Universal both run their own hotels with their own guest benefits, and both make it materially easier to visit their own parks. SeaWorld does not operate hotels in the same way, which is why staying near SeaWorld is a location decision rather than a benefits decision.

Which park do you actually need to be near?

Walt Disney World is roughly the size of a small city, so being near Disney does not mean being near your park. Universal's campus is far more compact, but Epic Universe sits at the opposite end of it from Universal Studios Florida.

What staying on-site actually changes

Both Disney and Universal give their hotel guests earlier park entry, transport to their own parks and the ability to return to the room in the middle of the day without a parking charge. Universal's Premier hotels have long added Universal Express Unlimited at the two original parks, which is the single most valuable on-site benefit in Orlando when the parks are busy.

None of that is free. You are paying a premium for it in the room rate, and the calculation is different for a family of six than for a couple. Both comparison pages below work through the numbers in terms of what you gain and what you give up.

Benefits change, so check before you book

Early entry rules, which parks a benefit covers and which hotels qualify are all set by Disney and Universal and have changed more than once. Confirm the current terms on the official park site before choosing a hotel for a benefit.

Common questions

Can I stay in one hotel and visit both Disney and Universal?

Yes, and most people do. The question is how much driving you want. A hotel in the middle, on International Drive, keeps both within a reasonable trip. A hotel on Disney property makes the Universal days longer, and a Universal hotel does the reverse.

Which theme park area has the cheapest hotels?

The Kissimmee corridor south of Walt Disney World, followed by the older parts of International Drive. Both assume a rental car. For a Disney-only trip without a car, a Disney Value resort is frequently cheaper overall once parking is counted.

How far apart are Universal Studios and Epic Universe?

They are at opposite ends of the same Universal Orlando campus rather than in different parts of the city, and Universal connects them with its own transport. Even so, a hotel that is convenient for one is not automatically convenient for the other, which is why we treat them as separate hotel questions.
