Luxury resort lobby with high ceilings and warm lighting in Orlando

Luxury Hotels in Orlando

Orlando luxury splits cleanly into two kinds: resorts that are genuinely built for families, and resorts that would rather you arrived without children. Knowing which is which saves a great deal of money and disappointment.

30-Second Verdict

Four Seasons Resort Orlando is the strongest luxury hotel in the city and the only one that serves families and adults equally well. The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes is the better choice for couples who want quiet. Waldorf Astoria Orlando sits between them and wins on Disney proximity. Disney's Grand Floridian is the right answer only if Magic Kingdom is the point of the trip.

What luxury means here, and what it does not

Orlando has no shortage of large, expensive hotels. What separates the resorts on this page is service ratio, room quality, the quality of the food on the property and whether the pool area is designed for relaxing or for children. Very few Orlando resorts do the last one well in both directions at once.

What luxury does not buy you in Orlando is a shorter park day. Every one of these hotels still puts you in the same queues. If the goal is to reduce time in line, the money is better spent on a Universal Premier hotel and its Express benefit than on a better room.

The picks

Best overall

Golden Oak, Walt Disney World★★★★★9.3/10157 reviews

  • Luxury Pick
  • Best for Families
  • Lazy river
  • Water slides
  • Spa
  • Luxury

It is the only Orlando luxury resort that does not force a choice between a water park and a quiet pool, because it has both and keeps them apart. Add Disney theme park transportation as an Official Walt Disney World Hotel and a full spa, and there is no direct competitor.

Best for: Families and couples travelling together

Watch out: The rate. If nobody in the party will use Explorer Island, the Ritz-Carlton offers a similar service level for less.

Best for couples

Grande Lakes★★★★★8.7/10157 reviews

  • Luxury Pick
  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Luxury
  • Fitness center

The Ritz half of the Grande Lakes campus is deliberately calmer than the JW Marriott half, while still sharing the golf course and the water feature. For a couple who want a resort day and a park day in the same week, it strikes the balance better than anything closer to Disney.

Best for: Adults who want a quiet resort with a spa

Watch out: Standard rooms here are sized for two or three people. This is not a family-of-five hotel.

Best luxury hotel inside Disney property

Bonnet Creek★★★★★8.4/10200 reviews

  • Luxury Pick
  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Luxury
  • Theme park shuttle

Bonnet Creek puts you inside the Disney property boundary, and Waldorf Astoria is the quiet end of it. It is an Official Walt Disney World Hotel with a Disney theme park shuttle, a golf course and a full spa, without the family-resort noise of its neighbours.

Best for: Adults who want a calm resort and short Disney journeys

Watch out: The pool is designed for relaxing rather than for children. Families wanting a water slide should look next door at Signia.

Newest luxury tower near Disney

Bonnet Creek★★★★9/10227 reviews

  • Luxury Pick
  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Luxury
  • Business facilities

The newest of the Bonnet Creek luxury properties, with a rooftop bar and a design aimed at adults rather than families. It is a genuine alternative to Waldorf Astoria if you prefer contemporary to classical.

Best for: Adults, couples and premium business travel

Watch out: Newer means fewer guest reviews behind it than the established resorts on this page.

Best luxury resort with a lazy river

Grande Lakes★★★★★9/10291 reviews

  • Luxury Pick
  • Best Rest Day
  • Lazy river
  • Water slides
  • Spa
  • Luxury

The family-facing half of Grande Lakes, with a lazy river and slides, and full access to the golf and the spa on the Ritz side. It is the value choice within Orlando luxury for a family that wants a resort week.

Best for: Families who want the top tier and a water feature

Watch out: The location is not near any park entrance. Budget driving time on every park day.

Best luxury on Disney property

Magic Kingdom area★★★★★

  • Luxury Pick
  • On-Site
  • Pool
  • Water slides
  • Spa
  • Works without a car

The Grand Floridian is the only hotel on this page where you can walk to a theme park entrance, and the monorail and boat make a Magic Kingdom-heavy week close to effortless. Standard rooms are published for five, which is unusual at this level.

Best for: Magic Kingdom-first families and couples

Watch out: Service and food are strong, but the room finish is not at the level of the Four Seasons or the Ritz-Carlton for a comparable price.

Quietest hotel on Universal property

Universal Orlando★★★★7.9/10556 reviews

  • On-Site
  • Luxury Pick
  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Walkable to a park
  • Works without a car

Portofino Bay is the furthest of Universal's three original Premier hotels from the park gates, which is exactly why it is the quietest. It has three pools and a full spa, plus a water taxi and a walking path.

Best for: Universal trips that want calm and Express benefits

Watch out: The walk to the parks is real, and longer than from Royal Pacific or Hard Rock. Confirm the current benefit terms with Universal before booking for Express.

Grand Bohemian Hotel Orlando, Autograph Collection in Downtown Orlando
Best luxury hotel in the city centre

Grand Bohemian Hotel Orlando, Autograph Collection

Downtown Orlando

  • Luxury Pick
  • Boutique
  • Spa
  • Luxury
  • Business facilities

An art-led Autograph Collection hotel in Downtown Orlando, next to the performing arts centre and the restaurant district. This is the luxury choice when the trip has nothing to do with theme parks.

Best for: Business travel and city stays rather than park trips

Watch out: It is a long drive from every park. Do not book it as a theme park base.

Choosing between them

Best for

  • You want one hotel that suits a couple and their grandchildren: Four Seasons.
  • You want quiet and a spa, and you will drive: Ritz-Carlton.
  • You want quiet and short Disney journeys: Waldorf Astoria.
  • You want luxury and a lazy river for less: JW Marriott, Grande Lakes.
  • Magic Kingdom is most of your week: Grand Floridian.

Skip it if

  • You are choosing luxury to shorten queues. It does not do that.
  • You need a room for six. Almost every hotel here caps standard rooms at four or five.
  • Your week is four park days and you will be in the room to sleep only.
  • You want a water park and you have booked the Ritz-Carlton or Waldorf Astoria.

Common questions

Which is the best luxury hotel in Orlando?

Four Seasons Resort Orlando, by service level and by the range of guests it can satisfy at once. For a couple who want quiet, the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes is the better stay and usually costs less.

Are Disney Deluxe resorts luxury hotels?

They are Disney's top tier, and by location and transport they are unmatched for a Disney trip. Judged purely as hotels, against Four Seasons or the Ritz-Carlton, the room finish and service ratio are a step below. You are buying access, not luxury, and for a Magic Kingdom week that is often the better purchase.

Do luxury Orlando hotels include theme park benefits?

Some do. Four Seasons Resort Orlando and Waldorf Astoria Orlando are Official Walt Disney World Hotels, and Universal's Premier hotels have long included Universal Express Unlimited for the two original parks. Benefits and the parks they cover change, so confirm the current terms with Disney or Universal before booking for that reason.
