Hotels, restaurants and palm trees along International Drive in Orlando

International Drive Hotels

I-Drive is not one location. The north end serves Universal, the middle is the restaurant and attraction strip, and the south end belongs to the Convention Center and SeaWorld.

30-Second Verdict

For Universal and Epic Universe, stay at the north end or on Universal Boulevard. For restaurants and attractions on the doorstep, stay in the middle near ICON Park and Pointe Orlando. For the Convention Center and SeaWorld, stay at the south end. Hyatt Regency Orlando and Hilton Orlando are the two strongest hotels on the whole strip.

The strip is served by the I-Ride Trolley, which runs its length and makes moving between sections practical without a car. It is a useful supplement rather than a substitute for a theme park shuttle, because it does not enter the Disney or Universal properties.

The trade-off

I-Drive gives you the widest choice of restaurants in Orlando and the least attractive setting. You are trading a resort atmosphere for the ability to walk out of the lobby and find dinner.

Common questions

Is International Drive a good place to stay in Orlando?

It is the best single answer for a trip that mixes Universal, Epic Universe, SeaWorld and a Disney day or two, and for anyone who wants restaurants within walking distance. It is not the efficient choice for a Disney-only week.

Which end of International Drive is best?

North for Universal, middle for restaurants and attractions, south for the Convention Center and SeaWorld. The strip is long enough that the wrong end adds a real drive to every day.

Can you get around International Drive without a car?

Along the strip itself, yes. The I-Ride Trolley runs its length and many hotels are within walking distance of restaurants. Reaching the Disney or Universal parks still needs a shuttle, a rideshare or a car.

Is International Drive safe at night?

It is a busy, well-lit commercial strip with constant foot traffic around ICON Park and Pointe Orlando. Ordinary city precautions apply, and crossing the wide roads on foot needs care more than anything else.
