Hollywood Studios rewards an early arrival more than any other Disney park, which makes the transport from your hotel the thing worth optimising.
Disney's Pop Century and Art of Animation are the value answer, because the Skyliner reaches the park directly from a Value resort rate. Disney's Riviera Resort and Caribbean Beach do the same with more space. The EPCOT-area walking resorts reach it by boat, which is pleasant and slower.
Hollywood Studios concentrates a lot of demand into a small number of headline attractions. The practical effect is that the first hour of the day is worth more than the next three, and anything that shortens the gap between waking up and walking through the tapstiles pays off.
That is why the Skyliner resorts punch above their tier here. A Value resort room on a direct gondola line will get you to this gate faster than a Deluxe resort on a bus route.
A Skyliner station at Disney's cheapest tier, on a line that reaches Hollywood Studios directly. For an early-entry morning this is the strongest position per dollar on the whole property.
Best for: Parties of four who want the earliest arrival for the least money
Watch out: Standard rooms cap at four, and the Skyliner queue builds quickly before opening.
It shares Pop Century's Skyliner station and adds family suites for six. For a larger family targeting Hollywood Studios at opening, nothing else combines both.
Best for: Families of five or six who need the same Skyliner line
Watch out: Noisy and heavily themed for young children.
Every Skyliner line passes through here, so this is the resort with the most flexible gondola access to both Hollywood Studios and EPCOT.
Best for: Families who want Moderate rooms and direct access
Watch out: The resort is spread around a lake. Village location relative to the station changes the walk noticeably.
A boat runs from the EPCOT resort area to Hollywood Studios, and the BoardWalk gives you a place to eat afterwards without transport.
Best for: Adults who want an evening walk and a morning boat
Watch out: The boat is slower than the Skyliner and less frequent. It is a pleasant journey, not a fast one.
The Skyliner is the best transport-per-dollar on Disney property and the least reliable in bad weather. Florida afternoons produce lightning, and the gondolas stop when it does. Have a bus plan for the return trip.

There is a walking path between the EPCOT resort area and Hollywood Studios, and it is a genuine walk rather than a stroll. Most guests from those resorts take the boat or the Skyliner instead.
The Bonnet Creek resorts are the nearest off-site cluster to this side of the property, and you would still drive and pay theme park parking. For a Hollywood Studios-heavy trip, a Skyliner Value resort will beat almost any off-site room on arrival time.
