Two parallel Orlando hotel strips seen from above

International Drive vs Universal Boulevard Hotels

They run alongside each other and attract very different bookings. The difference is noise, price and how close you are to the Universal campus.

30-Second Verdict

Universal Boulevard if the trip is built around Universal or Epic Universe and you want a lower rate and a quieter night. International Drive if you want restaurants and attractions on foot, or if the week also includes SeaWorld, the Convention Center or Disney.

What the extra quiet is worth

Universal Boulevard is set back from the main tourist strip, which makes it noticeably quieter at night. It also means there is very little to walk to, so evenings involve driving or a rideshare unless you eat at the hotel.

International Drive is the reverse: louder, brighter and full of places to eat. For a family who want a different restaurant each night, that is the whole argument.

Breakfast and kitchens

Universal Boulevard has an unusual concentration of extended-stay and select-service brands, which means included breakfast is close to standard and full kitchens are common. For a week with five park days, that combination does more for the budget than a slightly cheaper room would.

International Drive has a wider mix, including resorts that charge for everything and budget hotels that include nothing. Read what is in the rate rather than assuming.

The trade-off

Universal Boulevard is the better base and the worse address. You will sleep better, spend less on food and drive to dinner.

The decision

Choose Universal Boulevard if

  • Universal or Epic Universe is the main reason for the trip.
  • You want breakfast included and a kitchen in the room.
  • You would rather have a quiet night than a walkable restaurant.
  • You are staying a week or longer.
  • You are happy to drive or ride to dinner.

Choose International Drive if

  • You want restaurants and attractions on foot.
  • The week includes SeaWorld, the Convention Center or Disney.
  • You want the widest range of prices and hotel types.
  • You plan to use the I-Ride Trolley rather than a car.
  • The evenings matter as much as the park days.

Common questions

Is Universal Boulevard part of International Drive?

No. They are separate parallel roads on the Universal side of the city, connected at several points. The hotels on each have a distinctly different character.

Which is closer to Epic Universe?

The southern end of Universal Boulevard and the southern end of International Drive are both close. Because Epic Universe has its own entrance, ask any hotel whether its shuttle serves that gate specifically rather than only the original parks.

Is Universal Boulevard cheaper?

Generally yes for a comparable standard of hotel, and it has less variance. International Drive has cheaper rooms at the bottom end and much more expensive ones at the top.
